BACK TO GATES
A pair of leaf and fern motif gates for a garden archway. My clients wanted organic double gates to separate one area of their garden from another, without making the relatively low height archway seem cramped. My main artistic decision was to have the tops of the gates open, without a top rail, so your eye doesn't hit a dead end. The design as a whole was very 3D as bars wrapped around each other, running front to back, and the fern leaves alternated in arrangement. At my clients' request there were two butterflies, one landing on each gate. To meet my clients' wishes of having these installed by Christmas, I worked in the pouring rain, with Covid. The next morning my clients sent me the lovely picture of them in the sunrise. The paint colour specified by my clients was similar to Farrow and Ball, "Railings".
