BACK TO GATES

This gate near Tenterden in Kent was traditionally forged throughout and utilized traditional hot rivets as a means of construction, instead of modern welding methods. The end result was a very handsome gate where the joinery became part of the overall aesthetic. At the core of the design was an arched top, which in conjunction with the top bracing bar forms an incomplete circle. The latch was designed so it was easy to operate from either side. The gate was galvanized for rust protection, then I treated it with a mild acid to etch the surface, finally sealing it with an exterior grade oil.
